Had to write about this. Yesterday, I wrote a post on what I consider one of the weak links of a functioning democracy. About treating all votes as equal.

This is exactly the flip side of the coin – and perhaps, a consequence of the subject of my previous post. Voters who confuse Osama with Obama will elect leaders like the one profiled here.

So according to the Guardian, Mr. Silvestro Reyes, a Democrat from Texas (surprise!) – chosen by Ms. Pelosi to chair the house intelligence committee (charged with the oversight of the CIA and other intelligence agencies) was unable to answer rather plebian questions like “Who’s in the Al-Qaida?” and “What is Hezbollah”. (Read the article in the link, its funny)

Remember the time when the Hannitys and the O’Reillys of the world were mouthing off about how the world would be a safer, better, happier and freer place if the United States went around smashing Iraq to smithereens and removing Saddam Hussain. All but two members of the entire senate seemed to concur. Fast forward to today. You get the picture.

Moral of the story – it is positively dangerous to have a country, especially a superpower with global ambitions to be governed by politicians who are stupid or ignorant or worse still, like in this case – a combination thereof.

Deja Vu all over again!
